Does the volume or tone control on your stereo, radio or other device make a lot of noise when you adjust it?
This might be something you can fix yourself. The first and most important step is to ensure that the device is not plugged in. You will need to open the case to expose the volume control. You will need some aerosol electrical contact cleaner. You will need to spray some of the contact cleaner into any opening you can see (see the red arrows in the images below) and twist the control know back and forth to work it in.
